Green Infrastructure Implementation in Fall River, Massachusetts

Like many older industrial centers in the northeastern U.S., Fall River, Massachusetts faces the challenge of degraded surface water quality associated with an aging combined sewer system. Although the city has achieved significant reductions in combined sewer overflows (CSOs) through the implementation of several large sewer separation and storage infrastructure projects, several areas continue to have frequent CSOs. These areas are generally not suitable for conventional infrastructure approaches due to resource limitations and significant implementation constraints.

This report documents the development of several green infrastructure elements that could be incorporated into the city’s stormwater management program.
