External partners work directly with EPA laboratories and staff on collaborative research and development projects through the Federal Technology Transfer Act (FTTA) program. For the purposes of FTTA a laboratory is broadly considered to be:

  • a research laboratory (i.e., part of the Office of Research and Development);
  • an EPA program office or a laboratory supporting an EPA program or headquarters office; or
  • a laboratory or office that serves any of EPA's ten regional offices located throughout the nation.

Laboratories demonstrate the breadth of research and development conducted by EPA, providing ideas about collaboration opportunities with potential partners.
