Guide on Consultation and Collaboration with Indian Tribal Governments and the Public Participation of Indigenous Groups and Tribal Members in Environmental Decision Making

“Guide on Consultation and Collaboration with Indian Tribal Governments and the Public Participation of Indigenous Groups and Tribal Members in Environmental Decision Making” was created by the Indigenous Peoples Subcommittee, of the National Environmental Justice Advisory Council (NEJAC), to address concerns raised about the lack of effective consultation and collaboration between federal agencies and American Indian and Alaska Native tribal governments. The NEJAC hopes this Guide will help EPA, and other interested stakeholders, better understand the necessity and principles for effective consultation with tribal governments and the meaningful involvement of tribal communities and tribal members in public participation processes.
