Community Water System Survey

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) conducts the Community Water System (CWS) Survey to obtain data to support the development and evaluation of drinking water regulations. The vast majority of systems are small and privately owned, but most people are customers of large publicly-owned systems. This report identifies trends and key findings from the survey.

Information included in the survey reports includes:
  • Water system size
  • Water source
  • System ownership category
  • Treatment practices
  • Storage and distribution
  • Financial characteristics

The available surveys were conducted in 2006, 2000, and 1995.You will need Adobe Reader to view some of the files on this page. See EPA’s About PDF page to learn more.
