Superfund Analytical Services and Contract Laboratory Program Automated Tools
The Analytical Services Branch (ASB) offers an integrated automated system, with a Web based single sign-on point of entry, to provide consistent processes related to the collection, analysis, evaluation, reporting, and payment of analytical samples. Databases and tracking systems are used to track the performance of analytical methods, monitor laboratory performance, maintain laboratory contract and invoicing information, and provide data for Superfund cost recovery. Any or all of the following automated functions/tools are available to users to gather and track information related to analytical data for use in various phases of site activity and research studies.
Analytical Services Request - Allows the user to electronically post their request for analytical services online. This function reduces the volume of paperwork involved in tracking Cases, provides real-time access to Case information, reduces clerical tasks involved in notifying laboratories of scheduling assignments, and reduces the requirement for data entry.
Modified Analyses – Allows users to search for and view detailed information about previously performed modified analyses (MA). A new MA request may be constructed from existing MA specifications, or previous specifications may be used in their entirety, depending on the needs of the data user. A modified analyses may be requested to include, but are not limited to, adding additional compounds, adjusting Contract Required Quantitation Limits (CRQLs) for target analytes, and making minor adjustments to specific analytical protocols to enhance method performance.
Sample Collection – Allows for the collection of sampling, observational, and monitoring field data. This includes the generation of sample tags and chain of custody.
Sample Tracking - Allows laboratories to submit chain of custody, preliminary results, and create/edit a sample delivery group (SDG). The data user is able to track samples from collection through data analysis and screening. This helps provide legally defensible data. Laboratories, data users, and EPA personnel are able to track the progress of analytical data. It provides an overview of sample delivery group information, sample-level information, and comments by laboratories and EPA, allowing users to determine late data or data not received.
Electronic Data Exchange, Evaluation and Assessment – Allows laboratories to perform self-inspection of analytical data prior to submission. Allows users to process data from laboratories, ensuring that the data complies with the requirements stated in the specified statement of work and meets method, national functional guideline (NFG), and user-specified requirements. This function uses an Electronic Data Deliverable (EDD) in the Staged Electronic Data Deliverable (SEDD) format to assess the analytical data provided and send the data assessment results and data usability status to laboratories and data user.
Manage and Process Invoices – Allows laboratories to submit invoices for payment of analytical services.
Reports – Allows users to generate reports and spreadsheets from data contained in the Contract Laboratory Program Support Systems (CLPSS) database.
