EPA is generating new data streams, approaches and tools to evaluate the safety of chemicals. These approaches and tools can reduce the time and cost of testing the thousands of chemicals found products used every day. As part of this work, EPA researchers are collaborating with EPA policy makers, external stakeholders and scientific committees to demonstrate how these new approaches, data and tools can be used.

• Prioritizing chemicals for endocrine disruption: EPA’s Endocrine Disruption Screening Program is working to use these approaches to prioritize the thousands of chemicals that need to be tested for potential endocrine disruption. Endocrine disrupting chemicals can interfere with the endocrine system and lead to problems with reproduction (i.e. egg and sperm production) and development (i.e. healthy fetal growth).
• Scientific Advisory Panel Meetings: EPA’s Endocrine Disruption Screening Program holds these meetings to request expert scientific feedback on using these new approaches to prioritize chemicals for potential endocrine activity. The feedback received from the SAP to date is very supportive of using these approaches.
