Minneapolis, Minnesota.
What brought you to EPA?
I was looking for an opportunity to contribute to EPA’s mission of protecting human health and the environment.
Describe the type of work you do at EPA.
I work on enforcing U.S. environmental laws, addressing serious pollution problems to protect communities and the environment. I help promote the use of green infrastructure for stormwater management and the reduction of combined sewer overflows. For example, green infrastructure uses vegetation and soil to manage rainwater where it falls. Green infrastructure and sustainable practices provide a variety of benefits to communities throughout the country by improving air quality and creating energy savings. Additionally, green spaces and green jobs help build sustainable and resilient communities overall.
What is your highest level of education? What was your major?
I have a master of science in science, technology, and environmental policy from the University of Minnesota and a bachelor of environmental science from the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
When did you know you were a member of the LBGT community?
I’ve known for as long as I can remember. I was extremely fortunate to grow up with LGBT role models and allies as important people in my life.
What message would you like to send other members of the LBGT community who are considering college or a career in environmental protection?
Environmental protection is a fascinating and extremely important field, with huge positive impacts on the lives of people. I encourage anyone who is interested to pursue it!
