Profiles of Members of EPA's LGBT Community

Kevin Minoli
Kevin Minoli, Principal Deputy General Counsel
Office of General Counsel
Washington, DC

Where were you born?

Barre, Vermont.

What brought you to EPA?

Definitely the mission drew me to EPA.

Describe the type of work you do at EPA.

I’m the principal deputy general counsel for the Office of General Counsel. In that role, I serve as the managing attorney for the office. I’m responsible for matters like budgeting and hiring for the office. I’m also the lead for legal issues that are not generally based on one of the environmental statutes. For example, I’m the OGC front office lead on matters related to information law, employment law, congressional oversight, appropriations law, ethics, and matters related to the Inspector General.

What is your highest level of education? What was your major?

I have a juris doctor degree from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon.

When did you know you were a member of the LBGT community?

As far back as high school, although I did not begin to come out until law school.

What message would you like to send other members of the LBGT community who are considering college or a career in environmental protection?

EPA is an organization where I feel like I have been evaluated solely on my ability throughout my entire career, despite being out since I arrived in late 2000.
