The BMDS download package includes the most current versions of BMDS and ICF International's BMDS Wizard Exitsoftware. The BMDS Wizard simplifies BMD modeling by providing a Microsoft Excel interface to maintain all inputs, outputs, and decisions made in the BMD modeling process.

The download package also includes the BMDS ReadMe file, online help, and the BMDS User Manual (a PDF version of the online help). You can find these files in the BMDS application folder.

  • Microsoft Windows 2000, NT, XP, Vista, 7, or 8. Only operation in Windows XP and Windows 7 has been fully tested at this time.

Uninstalling Older BMDS Versions (Optional)

You do not need to uninstall previous versions of BMDS.

However, if you want to uninstall previous versions of BMDS, it is recommended that you retain the directory structure for the folders holding your previous model runs' input and output data files. Keeping those files and folders in place will maintain the functionality of your previous BMDS sessions.

Downloading and Installing the Software

  1. Download the the BMDS 2.6.0.1 install package (ZIP) (41 MB, 2015-08-05) .
  2. Locate the BMDS .zip file you downloaded. Typical locations for file downloads are the Windows Desktop or the Downloads directory in My Documents.
  3. In Windows Explorer, double-click the downloaded .zip file. Drag and drop the BMDS application folder from the .zip file to the directory of your choice on your computer.
When installing the BMDS application folder, you should:
  • Place the BMDS application folder (and its subfolders) in the simplest, shortest directory possible.
  • Have administrative rights for the folder.
  • Ensure there are no special characters or spaces in the folder names.

For most EPA users, the preferred path would be C:\Users\[EPA user's LAN ID]; for non-EPA users, this could be as simple as C:\.

Refer to the BMDS ReadMe file for more information on:
  • Changes, fixes, and enhancements to this version of BMDS
  • Getting started with the BMDS Wizard
  • BMDS zip file distribution and uninstalling versions of BMDS prior to version 2.1.2
  • Determining whether BMDS is properly installed
  • Creating a desktop shortcut icon
  • Resolving possible issues with the Help file display

If you have problems or concerns, please use the "BMDS Support" feature listed in the BMDS Help menu or contact us using our Help Desk Form.

Patch to Replace 00poly.exe File Erroneously Removed by Symantec Antivirus

On August 5, 2015, Symantec distributed a virus definition update that incorrectly flagged the 00poly.exe component of BMDS as malware, and then removed or quarantined the file. This has been confirmed as a false positive, and Symantec will mark 00poly.exe as safe in their next update.

BMDS users whose 00poly.exe file has not been removed do not need to take any action. Future BMDS downloads should not trigger a Symantec alert.

However, for Symantec users whose BMDS systems were affected, the BMDS team is providing a patched version of 00poly.exe. This patch should work for any BMDS version you have on your computer. To apply the patch:

  1. Download the 00poly.exe patch file (ZIP)(12 K, 2015-08-07) .
  2. Copy the zip file’s contents to your BMDS2601 program folder. If you have multiple BMDS versions on your computer, copy the patched file to all other BMDS program folders.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please contact us if you have any further questions or concerns.
