Assessing and Managing Chemicals under TSCA

Current Chemical Risk Reduction Activities

TSCA Work Plan chemical assessments summarize available hazard, exposure, and use information on TSCA Work Plan chemicals, and outline the risks that each chemical may present.  If a risk from a particular use of a TSCA chemical is identified, EPA will take action to address the risks. Those actions, alone or in combination, may include:

  •  Regulatory actions pursuant to TSCA section 5 and 6
    • Significant New Use Rules (TSCA section 5)
    • Consent Orders (TSCA section 5)
    • Limitations of Manufacturing, Processing & Use (TSCA section 6)
  • Voluntary stewardship efforts

In addition, EPA is continuing to pursue risk reduction activities on specific chemicals described in the Action Plans published from 2009 through 2011. Read a brief summary overview of all posted chemical action plans. EPA also encourages industry to reduce risk by moving to safer alternatives by conducting assessments of alternatives to chemicals of concern.
