State Asbestos Contacts

Many states administer an asbestos program and your state department of environmental protection or health will be the best place to address asbestos questions that can not otherwise be answered with the information on this website. The states will also have the most up-to-date list of training courses for asbestos professionals. In some cases, state contacts specialize in federal requirements such as the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) and the asbestos National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP). Twelve states have an AHERA waiver to implement and oversee their own asbestos in schools regulations. Those states include Connecticut, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Texas and Utah.
