Anaerobic Digestion Data Collection Project

Thank you for your interest in providing data about your anaerobic digester.  This data will be valuable to EPA and other stakeholders involved in anaerobic digestion projects.  EPA has designed three different surveys to gather data for the different types of anaerobic digesters described below.

In order to comply with the Paperwork Reduction Act, the federal goverment follows very specific guidelines for gathering data from the public.  A control number from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is required for all data collection projects.

The process to gain approval for this data collection effort is underway right now.  The surveys will be made available to you right here following OMB approval.  This is anticipated to occur by the end of 2016.  EPA will post information received but will not disclose any personally identifiable information for the individuals filling out the surveys.

Stand-alone Anaerobic Digesters - Stand-alone digesters typically accept and process feedstocks from one or more sources for a tipping fee.  Other stand-alone digesters are built to manage a specific type material for a particular business.  These digesters can process yard waste, manures and wastewater solids, but the primary feedstock is usually food waste.

On-Farm Digesters – Anaerobic digesters on farms are designed to process manure.  However, many farms also accept and process other organic wastes from offsite, including food waste.

Digesters at Water Resource Recovery Facilities (WRRFs) – Anaerobic digesters at WRRFs are designed to process wastewater solids.  However, many WRRFs also accept and process other organic wastes from offsite, including food waste.

Your input will be invaluable and greatly appreciated.  Thank you for considering taking the time to fill out one of our surveys.
