John Showman, Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator, Office of Administration and Resources Management

John ShowmanJohn ShowmanServes as the Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Office of Administration and Resources Management since March 2016.  Mr. Showman assists in the management of essential support functions, including human resources management, diversity and inclusion, acquisition (contracts), grants management, and the protection of EPA’s facilities and other critical assets nationwide.

Prior to becoming the Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator, Mr. Showman was the Director of OARM’s Office of Resources, Operations and Management since October 2012.  In this capacity he provided strategic planning and administrative support to the Assistant Administrator, Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator and Office Directors in key policy areas such as budget development and management, human capital, information management, and served as OARM's main liaison with the Regional Offices and OCFO.  He managed the Agency’s “Contingency Plan for Shutdown” and also served as the Assistant Administrator's point person overseeing the various studies analyzing the use of shared service centers as a way to achieve efficiencies and standardize operations.  He had served as the Deputy Director since October 2002 and was Acting Director from 2010 - 2012.

Prior to joining OROM, Mr. Showman worked in the Office of Grants and Debarment for over 19 years serving in various positions including Associate Award Official and Program Management Director/Senior Advisor to the Director.  From November 2001 - September 2002 he served as Acting Director of OARM's Office of Administration's Resources Management Staff directing an organization responsible for managing the Agency’s complex Support and Building and Facilities Accounts with a combined annual budget in excess of $300 million.

Mr. Showman began working at EPA in 1980 as a summer student and has a Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Finance from Virginia Tech.
